Club History

Lindisfarne Sailing Club was formed in 1955. The first club commodore was Mr M Cleary (1955) followed by Mr R J Featherstone (1956-59). The club was formed as a result of a number of local fathers coming together with the intent of both occupying their children and introducing them to the sport of sailing.The first committee formulated the following aims:

  • To encourage yacht racing and building;

  • To establish a club house and provide slipping, working and storage facilities

  • To organise and instruct members and non-members in seamanship, handling of craft and water safety;

  • To provide training classes for the youth of the district.

These aims still remain true with Lindisfarne Sailing club now working towards a major revitalisation of the club, uplift in memberships and many more years of fun, family friendly dinghy sailing. We are proud of our rich and varied history and are seeking images, stories and anecdotes from former members and their families to compile into a 'History of LSC' book.
